About Mike

Deep Idaho Roots

M.S. Mechanical Engineering
30+ Yrs Heavy Industry
Soda Springs – 28 Years

Raised in Idaho since he was ten, Mike has proudly called Soda Springs home for nearly 30 years. He knows the land, the people, and the values of District 35 because he's lived them. His wife Shelly — from Downey — and their four children are the foundation of everything he does.

With a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and over three decades in heavy industry, Mike brings real-world expertise to the legislature. He now serves as a contract and consulting engineer, continuing to solve problems with the same practical, results-driven approach he applies in public service.

"I have lived in Soda Springs because of the treasured natural resources — from September elk bugles to a fighting cutthroat on a 5-weight, to a pail full of huckleberries."

Mike and his wife Shelly — along with their four children and son-in-law — are proud to call Soda Springs home.

Mike is honored to represent the shared values of rural Idaho — individual autonomy, freedom, limited government, and stewardship of the land itself — for all of District 35.

4 Areas of Focus

What Mike Stands For

From the classroom to the phosphate mine, from family farms to the national laboratory — District 35 deserves principled, experienced representation that understands our industries, our values, and our future.

Shaping Idaho's Future

Investing in Our Children

Mike values education deeply and recognizes the changes happening — and needed — to ensure Idaho's children become productive, contributing citizens prepared for tomorrow's economy.

  • Support strong public school systems in rural Idaho communities
  • Advance workforce and technical training tied to Idaho's key industries
  • Promote parental involvement and local control of curriculum
  • Ensure Idaho students are competitive and career-ready

Stewardship & Access

Protecting Idaho's Public Lands & Waters

Mike doesn't just talk about Idaho's outdoor heritage — he lives it. From his bow in elk country to fly fishing cutthroat in crystal rivers, these lands are part of who he is and who he fights for.

  • Preserve hunting and fishing access on Idaho's public lands
  • Protect Idaho water rights and agricultural water supply
  • Oppose federal overreach on Idaho's lands and natural resources
  • Balance conservation with responsible resource development
  • Protect the traditions and freedoms Idaho families have always enjoyed

Keeping Idaho's Economy Competitive

Economy & Employment

The phosphate industry, agriculture, and Idaho National Laboratory are not just employers — they are the backbone of District 35 and critical to our national security. Mike fights to keep them vibrant and competitive.

  • Champion Idaho's phosphate industry as a critical national resource
  • Defend agricultural water rights and farm viability
  • Support INL's growth as a nuclear energy and defense leader
  • Keep Idaho's regulatory burden among the lowest in the nation
  • Support small and large businesses as the engine of our communities

Limited Government

Your Tax Dollars. Your Future.

Mike believes government works best when it lives within its means and stays out of the way of Idahoans building their lives. Idaho leads the nation in low regulation — and he intends to keep it that way.

  • Hold the line on taxes and oppose unnecessary government expansion
  • Maintain Idaho's status as one of the least-regulated states
  • Ensure every dollar appropriated delivers real value to constituents
  • Protect individual autonomy and freedom from government overreach
  • Prioritize infrastructure that serves rural Idaho communities first

"We share values of our rural lifestyle, autonomy and freedom, and limited government — and I am honored to represent my friends and neighbors in District 35."

— Mike Veile, District 35 Representative
